Romance Fiction and Romance Books

Chapter is an independent bookshop. We specialise in the romance fiction genre. Our romance books include contemporary romance, fantasy (including futuristic, magic, paranormal, time travel, vampires, werewolves, etc) romance, historical romance, hot romance, regency romance, romantic comedy and romantic suspense.

We have around 3,000 titles in stock and can special order in books from the USA (including publishers such as Ellora's Cave and Red Sage Publishing). We also source out-of-print books from the USA.

Crime and Mystery Fiction, Chick Lit and Mainstream Fiction

In addition to romance books, we also offer selections of crime and mystery fiction, chick lit and mainstream fiction.

Temporary Book Loyalty Card Programme Changes

As of 1 August 2011, given the strength of the NZ$ vs the US$, please note that we will provide two stamps for each instore book purchase of $20 or more, e.g., 2 stamps for a $20 mass market paperback book; 2 stamps for a $30 trade paperback book; 2 stamps for a $40 hardcover (effectively providing a $4 discount on each full-price book purchase instore). This programme does not apply to our red dot specials or any online/mail order specials.

We have decided to go down this route (ie, adjusting our loyalty card programme rather than our pricing) because of the physical difficulty of changing all of our mass market paperback price stickers (thousands of them!) as well as the ongoing volatility in the US financial markets while we monitor the situation. Some readers will also note that we have also in recent months trimmed our prices on both trade paperbacks and hardcovers (which is easier to do with these books because there are only small numbers of them) however we have not been able to do this across the board - as prices do depend on the supplier and edition (some of the locally sourced books from Hachette/Random House etc. come to us as UK/Australian editions rather than US editions).

A Beginners Guide to Romance Fiction

We are often asked for book recommendations, which can be difficult to do - because of the importance of individual taste. But, that issue aside, there are a number of single-title books or series that have achieved both widespread popularity as well as critical acclaim.

We have put together an indicative listing of such titles, restricting the list to just one entry per author per genre. In doing so, the listing does not include classic greats such as Jane Austen (Pride and Prejudice), Charlotte Bronte (Jane Eyre), Emily Bronte (Wuthering Heights) and Georgette Heyer (These Old Shades) - as we have focussed on books published in the last twenty-five or so years. However, most of the books shown should be in print.
